Yes, weld-through primer should generally be scratched or removed off the immediate weld area before welding to ensure a clean and strong weld. However, a thin layer of primer can be left on the adjacent weld surfaces that will be in contact after welding, as it helps to prevent corrosion, minimize weld spatter, and the heat affected zone. Always refer to the TDS for each product as some weld through primers can be welded over without removal.
